“We’re helping to change their lives": Aged care nurses fulfil their childhood dreams
There has been a global celebration this workweek, acknowledging the commitment and bravery of nurses around the planetary along International Nurses Day (May 12).
VMCH CEO Sonya Smart says she is grateful for all the nurses who work crosswise the organisation.
"We are so fortunate to hold many exceptional, passionate and caring nurses crossways our aged care, disability, instructive and allied health services.
"I want to in person thank each of them; they all work tirelessly to ensure the wellness and well-being of our residents and clients. We are so very fortunate to have them."
Jyoti and Alisha have been working for St Bernadette's Old Care Residence, Sunshine Northbound for five and three years respectively. Some started out A Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) before labor advance study and training to get Registered Nurses (RNs).
"I was 19 when I started working here, when I came to Australia from Kingdom of Nepal," says Jyoti. "It was a real home away from home. I get it on working with older people, especially when they grinning at you when you walk historic.
Alisha, also from Kingdom of Nepal, says existence a harbour in aged care is a puerility dream for her.

In Nepal, Jyoti and Alisha both say that while they oft live with their elderly relatives, they don't monitor their wellness as we do within ripened care residences. Jyoti says this makes a big conflict in their overall health outcomes.

While Jyoti loves being a wet-nurse, she says information technology privy equal challenging when residents enter alleviator care, as it is a very emotional clock time.
"It affects America each. While we are here to support and reassure the families, we are affected also because we develop so much strong relationships with them; they are like our grandparents."
Alisha added, "It's always operose to see them go, because we are emotionally connected to them. But at the end of the twenty-four hour period a smile from the residents go far easier."
"Beingness a nurse is a same satisfying job, particularly in cured care," says Jyoti. "Working in a hospital, you father't build that emotional connection, it's so fast. Practical with residents, and knowing their history, hearing their stories, IT's very impactful."
"Seeing residents smiling, we know we make a dispute," says Alisha. "We're helping to change their lives."
